Full-Time 100-Ton Captain (April–November) — Jersey Girl (Belmar, NJ)

Company: Jersey Shore Whale Watch / Jersey Girl Tours & Charters

Location: Belmar, New Jersey (in-person, on the water)

Start: April (season runs through November)

Role type: Full-time, seasonal (with the right fit, potential for off-season work)

About the Role

We’re hiring a full-time 100-Ton Captain to run our flagship vessel Jersey Girl—a 110’ Breaux Bros all-aluminum, USCG-inspected passenger vessel carrying up to 150 passengers.

Our operation includes:

 • Coastal whale & dolphin watching tours along the Jersey Shore

 • Offshore fishing trips (longer-range runs offshore)

This is a hands-on, safety-first role for a confident mariner who can lead a crew, manage passenger operations, and deliver a smooth, professional experience every trip.

What You’ll Do

 • Safely operate and navigate a 110’ passenger vessel on coastal and offshore routes

 • Maintain full compliance with USCG regulations, vessel inspection standards, and company SOPs

 • Lead, train, and supervise deck crew; run drills and enforce a strong safety culture

 • Oversee passenger boarding/deboarding, briefings, and overall onboard operations

 • Manage voyage planning, weather decisions, docking, and tight-turnaround schedules

 • Keep logs, documentation, and reporting organized and inspection-ready

 • Coordinate with maintenance/operations to keep the boat mission-ready all season

 • Represent the company professionally—calm under pressure, great with guests, strong communicator

Required Qualifications (modeled after top passenger-vessel operators)

 • U.S. Coast Guard Master License (100 Ton) (Near Coastal preferred)

 • Strong boat-handling experience with passenger vessels and close-quarters docking

 • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

 • FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit (or ability to obtain quickly)

 • CPR / First Aid (or ability to obtain quickly)

 • Must be able to participate in a USCG-compliant drug & alcohol program and pass required screenings

 • Proven leadership: you can run a crew, set standards, and keep operations smooth and safe

Preferred Experience

 • Experience running 100’+ vessels or high-capacity passenger boats

 • Familiarity with New Jersey / NY Bight coastal conditions and offshore decision-making

 • Prior experience in wildlife tour operations and/or offshore fishing operations

 • Strong mechanical awareness and ability to spot issues early

What We Offer

 • Competitive pay (based on experience and credentials)

 • A professional, safety-focused team and a well-known, high-visibility operation

 • A busy season with real sea time (coastal + offshore), not just short harbor loops

How to Apply

Reply here on LinkedIn with:

 • A short intro

 • Resume or sea service summary

 • Copies/listing of credentials (license, TWIC, FCC, etc.)

 • Earliest available start date in April
